Aswan, Egypt – A City Full of Surprises!
Aswan is the ancient gateway to the sunniest city of Egypt in the south. It is the south border of Egypt’s Sudan and it is mainly in the east bank of Nile. It is always very relaxing and chill when sitting and enjoying the beautiful Nile with some good music and local food. It is a beautiful island flowing by the Nile with desert and granite rocks covered with palm groves and tropical plants. Every night in the cultural center of Aswan, local Nubian dancers and singers perform very beautifully. Aswan is also called the Houses of the Egyptian Army. It is also known as the gateway to Abu Simbel. It is also called to be the starting as well as the ending point of Nile cruise.

Abu Simbel
Abu Simbel has situated 300 km to the south of Aswan in a desert area. The temples at Abu Simbel were built to commemorate to the reign of Ramses – II. The structure of the temples is made with massive stone statues. Ramses is covered on the rocks depicting his victory in the great Battle of Kadesh.
The twin temples preserved paintings, statues, chambers. The bigger temple was dedicated to King Ramses II and the smaller one was made for his wife Queen Nefertari. Interestingly, it is not the same place where both the temples were built, it was moved to this place due to the construction of the Aswan High Dam.
Aswan High Dam
It is the high dam on the Nile river in the city of Aswan. It is the modern example of construction on a monumental scale in Egypt. There is a small pavilion site to display the dam.
This dam gives hydroelectricity, water for irrigation and control of flood which is very beneficial for the Egyptian people. It provides water for irrigation all over Cairo. Due to its construction, a great lake was formed called Nasser Lake, one of the world’s largest reservoirs the having an immense fish population.

Temple of Kalabsha
The temple of Kalabsha, The Nubian temple is situated 56 km of the south of Aswan and now moved to an island called new Kalabsha earlier known as Talmis near the western end of the Aswan High Dam. It was dedicated to God Mandulis, a lower Nubian sun God.
It was built by King Tholmosis and Amenhotep II during the 18th dynasty. The structure dates to the Roman period. It is one of the largest standing Nubian temples. Previously this area was under the military control but in early 90’s, tourists were allowed to access and explore the temple.
Nubian Museum
Nubian Museum is also famous as the history of ‘LAND OF GOLD’ It showcases the history, art, and culture of the Nubia. It was designed by the late Egyptian architect Mahmoud Al-Hakim. Nubian Museum was created to preserve the story of the ancient society. Mostly it reflects the traditional character of Nubian Architecture.
There are many beautiful gardens with waterfalls and lush greenery. It’s an amazing place to sit and enjoy the beauty of Egypt. You can also enjoy the local and International music and dance performances at the Amphitheater in the Nubian Museum.
It is one and only unique open museum which won Aga Khan award for its unique architecture in 2001. The travelers and explorers do catch the glimpse of the essence, nature, and culture of Nuba. And this land was abounding in monumental treasures. Finally, UNESCO also took an initiative to save the monuments of Nubia which is threatened due to the Aswan High Dam.
The Temple of Philae
The temple of Philae is dedicated to Isis, the goddess of magic. The temple of Philae is in the middle of the Nile and this huge Egyptian temple is set up high in water and reeds surrounding it. It was built in the 1960’s and it is almost surrounded by Rural countryside.
It has enormous walls with huge carvings of Egyptian kings and gods. The carving of the hieroglyphics is very beautiful. Further, you can also see Hathor, the goddess of beauty who has the head of a cow everywhere in the temple. Around every corner of the temple, you can enjoy the most beautiful views over the Nile.

Felucca on Nile River
A Nile Felucca cruise is a traditional way of exploring the beauty of Egypt and enjoying the journey through the ancient land of Egyptian Pharaohs. The basic structure of the Felucca has not really changed since the ancient Egyptian time. A Felucca is an open decked boat with canvas shelters to block the hot desert sun, cushions and pillows for the comfort of the travelers.
Camping on the banks of the Nile enjoying the natural beauty is a must do the activity. And also try to get your own sleeping bag for relaxing and comfortable sleeping because at times it gets very cold during nights and carries sufficient food and water to not feel hungry and enjoy the beauty of Nile river under the amazing sky with shining stars.
